Overview

Ethernity Networks ENET38xxRD is the Reference design kit for ENET38xx . It comes with on board 4 x SFPs , single XAUI and two PTMC connectors to accommodate all the interface options of the ENET3xxx.

As the ENET architecture supports non blocking switching between all port/interfaces, the optional interface for the PTMC connector can be used for Network or user side use

The ENET38xxRD demonstrate the configurable interface options offered by ENET38xx and can be used by Telecom Equipment Manufactures (TEM) as an Edge modular multi service platform that can accommodate many user interfaces options.

Application

MDU/FTTC/FTTB platform

The ENET38xx can be used to serve 4 xSGMII interfaces up link ports, or 2 x XAUI/QXAUI to support full ring application or 2GbE interface together with optional connectivity to off the shelf PON MAC, together with optional user face interfaces including 32 Fast Ethernet, 48 high speed VDSL

Carrier Ethernet

The ENET38xx can be used to Support 8 GbE user face ports and single XAUI ( 4 x SFPs on board + 4 GbE on one of the PTMC board) together with SPI-3 up link port, that serve for connectivity to EoS mappert and then can be connector to OC-48 SONET mapper.

Further more instead of 4GbE interface located on one of the PTMC module , one can connect 8 E1/T1 CES module, or another OC-12 SONET model with CES functionality , such that the module will be connected to main board through SGMII/RGMII.

And finally the board can be used for a pure Carrier Ethernet Switch and Traffic Manager, equipped with 12 GbE port (4 on board and additional 8 through the connectors)

Available PTMC Modules

  • Four GbE PTMC Module: Including 4 GbE 10/100/1000 Copper on panel and four RGMII interface towards the PTMC connector

  • Eight E1/T1: Include eight E1/T1 connectors and single Octal LIU + Framer connected through PTMC connector with configurable PCM interface.

  • Four channelized STM-1/OC-3 ports: Include four STM-1/OC-3 ports connected to PMC's TEMUX 336, connected to PTMC connector through SBI Bus.

  • Two STM-4 / OC-12 ATM ports: Include two STM-4 / OC-12 ports together with two SUNI framers connected to the PTMC connector through Utopia/POS interface.

Software support

The software support package of the ENET35xx includes the following functions:

  • OS independent abstraction layer
  • Dedicate Vx Works and Linux support
  • Linux operating system
    • The Linux kernel based on version 2.4 or higher
    • Supports standard Linux utilities via an implementation suitable for embedded systems, such as "Busybox"
    • The Linux distribution supports ftp and telnet server daemons. In addition, an http server daemon is supported.
  • LSP - Linux Support Package
    • The card auto-boots Linux after reset / power up, without requiring any external NFS file system (e.g. by using a RAMDISK file system).
    • The card's boot package enables the default auto-boot procedure to be interrupted (e.g. via CTRL-C at the console), to enable downloading of software via TFTP.
    • The card is mounted on a JFFS2 file system on the local Flash, which can be used for persistent storage of application configuration data.
    • Enables persistent static configuration of IP Address parameters (IP Address, Subnet mask, Default Gateway). These static configurations will be stored in Flash memory, and will be automatically loaded at boot time. In addition, it shall be possible to configure the card to use DHCP to dynamically obtain IP address parameters
    • Software download is supported via ftp.

  • CLI - Command Line Interface accessible via Serial Port and remote Telnet client
  • Debug Utility accessible via Serial Port and remote Telnet client
